Her Advocacy: Mental Health Awareness
“As a Psychology Major student, I want to use my course as a tool to understand people’s state of mind and well-being, so my advocacy is really close to my heart which is Mental Health Awareness.
We need to understand that people have different mental needs that we should be aware of, and we need to stop generalizing them as crazy or “baliw” when they seem to be troubled or are silently retreating to their own world. The issue on mental health is very relevant nowadays especially to the youth. This is the reason why I would like to raise awareness on mental health issues.”

What Keeps Her Busy: Marinel is currently an Architectural apprentice working on projects like residential working drawings and the projects’ 3D perspectives. She also does commission portraits and murals in restaurants. She is happy to be able to mix her career with her passion for Architecture.
Her Advocacy: Caring for the Environment and Women Empowerment
“My advocacy is about caring for the environment and women empowerment. I am passionate about the relationship of humankind and nature which allows us to express our deep respect and care for mother earth. Our planet is now in grave danger due to pollution which leads to environmental destruction and depletion of our natural resources. In addition, modern infrastructure, technological innovations and the growing population consume large amounts of energy, water, and resources which contribute significantly to climate change.
As an advocate of caring for the environment, my aim is to reach out to the youth and other communities within Pampanga who are affected by climate change to encourage them to influence others through simple acts like using less plastic, reducing your own waste, and planting trees. I aim to share what I know, to pass it on so others may do the same.
As an Architecture graduate, my passion for architecture pushes me to empower women in a male dominated field. As a woman, I want to inspire other women to be courageous enough to let our voices be heard in order to make a difference, to show that our ideas, opinions, and what we think matters. We can go further by engaging in charity works and other socio-civic causes and volunteering in activities that will help preserve our environment and ensure women empowerment.”

“I am an advocate of fitness and healthy lifestyle. As a Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) leader in our community, one project that I am trying to implement is sports.
I totally believe that technology advancement has its good and bad effect especially to my fellow millennials. This young generation is getting more addicted to Internet, Online games, social media, etc. Because of this, most of us millennials are losing interest in sports which will make them physically active and healthy.
This is the reason why I am working on projects that will help my fellow millennials get back in shape and get them more interested in sports. I intend to do this by organizing sports events like basketball, volleyball, and many more.”

What Keeps Her Busy: Aside from school works, Fina keeps herself busy with endless marathon of Western TV series on Netflix. She also loves to travel and is into sports like basketball and badminton.
Her Advocacy: Women Empowerment Focusing on Anti-Violence Against Women
“I chose this particular advocacy because I myself have experienced being an unempowered woman through means of verbal and physical abuse. But eventually, I realized that I had a choice. I held the choice to either live in a situation where the unending cycle of abuses takes place which will lead to loss of self-respect or to take a courageous step to fight for my rights and dignity. True enough, I found my inner strength and the courage to stand up for myself with the guidance and support of my loving family.
As I look at myself, I am proudest and happiest to claim that the darkest days of my life have been put to an end. I now have a strong sense of self-worth, making me responsible enough to deal with my own choices, my own decisions and to better my circumstance.
I want to serve as an inspiration to all the women who are still scared and are still living in the same agonies that I’ve been through. I want to serve as a reminder that WE always have a choice. With this, I aim to initiate in creating an environment for women where they know how to stand up for their rights that will eventually make them the best that they can be and eventually become a very productive citizen of this country.
I am proud to have been given the opportunity to stand up for all the women who have been through pains and struggles and I will definitely continue to stand for women empowerment.”

Her Advocacy: Mental Health

I have observed that depression has taken over a lot of people especially the youth. As a candidate, I would like to use this opportunity as a great platform to introduce, to raise awareness and to simply talk about my advocacy. To be a beauty of the new generation, it is important for us to use our voice for a good cause and it is our role to be a perfect example of how we can help to bring change in this cruel world.”

Padayon is a Hiligaynon word from the Negros Island of Visayas which means “continue” and Pamana is a Tagalog word that means “legacy”. Her Advocacy: To Give Aid to Orphans
“There are certain issues that I would like to be an advocate for, but one thing that caught my heart is this charity/orphanage called International Children’s Advocate, which gives aid and shelter to PWDs of all ages, but majority of whom are children and babies.
I learned about their plight when I joined Mutya ng Olongapo 2017. When we visited the orphanage, I got teary-eyed and questioned myself how can I be so discontented with some things when I am in fact still luckier compared to any of them. It was truly an eye-opening experience for me. I could tell they’re all full of joy and happiness despite their circumstances and I think that’s what we all need to have. Our group had a fund-raising Christmas activity for them last year and we also had one of the babies with cleft lip/palate undergo surgery. I would really love to extend more aid to them by helping them in their education, providing them with school supplies, clothing, and possible surgeries for the orphanage’s children with the help of the Miss Midori Clark organization.
As what Mahatma Gandhi once said, “The best way to find yourself, is to lose yourself in the service of others.”

Her Advocacy: To Be A Voice for the Orphans, The Abandoned, and the Less Fortunate Children
“What I would love to be an advocate of is to be a voice for the orphans, the abandoned, and the less fortunate children.
During one of my travels back in 2012, I had a chance to visit an organization named Cottolengo Filipino. It is a group that supports these less privileged children. It has become an advocacy for me, together with my family and friends, to secure help through donation drives and of course rendering my presence by spending time with them, and showing that in a big world that is seemingly hopeless for these children, there are some people who can still give them love and care.
In partnership with Midori, I am hoping that I will be given the chance to give these children renewed strength, overflow them with love, bring back a sense of purpose and make them feel that they would always have something to look forward to in life.”

Her Advocacy: Anti-Cyber bullying and Mental Health Awareness
“In this day and age where social media plays a huge part in our daily lives, I would like to give emphasis on the effects of cyber bullying towards depression and awareness in terms of mental health.
It might be cliché for a beauty queen, but I have experienced cyber bullying and depression first hand. It is very timely and relevant that we shed a light into its causes, and how social media triggers depression, especially with Millennials. As a beauty of the new generation, I feel empowered. It is important for us to become cautious about what we post and share online, be responsible enough to understand its effects towards other people.
Freedom of expression is a fundamental human right, but it does not entitle you to hurt other people.”

Her Advocacy: Education for All
“Being a College degree holder, I have realized that education is the primary key that would help unlock the doors to various opportunities and success. In my years growing up, I saw too many children – because of their dire circumstances – who did not have the opportunity to fulfill their dream of finishing their studies. It’s not that you have to let them graduate as a doctor or as an architect, but at least you need to instill in them the morals and values that will discipline them as a person which can only be provided by proper education. As an advocate of providing education for all Filipino children, I am very passionate and committed in correcting this wrong.”

Her Advocacy: Mental Health
“People see the light of life in different rays. There are those who see life as still worth living, and those who see life as something that needs to end. Hence, my advocacy focuses on mental health, which is also very timely as our country has recently passed the law regarding this.
I believe that individuals of all ages may experience mental health disorders and this can be triggered by physical, social, environmental and psychological factors. Depression leads to be the most alarming mental state which often leads to suicidal attempts. Mental health issues may not be as visible as physical health conditions, but it deserves the same amount of care and attention.
As part of this new generation, I am ready to be a catalyst for change by helping rebuild the lives of people. As my first step to strengthen my advocacy, I want to take advantage of technology by disseminating information about the passage of the Mental Health Law. I believe that acceptance and understanding are the keys to initiate the change that we all want to see.
I am also passionate about my dream of becoming a beauty queen. Now that I am finally fulfilling it, I want to also become an inspiration to other girls who are striving to reach their goals and make a difference to other people’s lives. I also want to spread awareness about my advocacy on mental health by using pageant stages to let my voice be heard.”

During her rest days, she tries to find solitude by playing video games and making soul food for her family. She believes that since we only live once, she would like to live her life to the fullest with no regrets.
Her Advocacy: Quality Education
“One thing that I hold dear to my heart is quality education. I advocate this because despite the Philippines having an almost 90% literacy rate, there are still underprivileged kids who can’t afford quality education.
My great inspiration for this advocacy is my grandmother. My grandmother’s parents could not afford to send their children to school so my grandmother only finished Grade 4. Even though she was able to eventually support her own family and she was somehow able to attain success despite her not being able to finish her studies, it pains me to see my grandmother not being able to read or write properly.
Because of this, I devoted my life in giving free education and lessons to children who cannot afford to study courses of the arts. Most of my college life was spent teaching juvenile children, youth who are under the care of the law, and less privileged private or public school students. After months of teaching these children, I harvested the fruit of my labor and was awarded with the “Best Outreach Program of the Year” last 2016 by the La Sallian Community.
I believe that all children deserve to be given quality education regardless of their status in life. It should be given generously for it can be a child’s stepping stone to a brighter future. I also believe that having an educated youth would result to a more prosperous country.”

Her Advocacy: Anti-Violence Against Women
“Victim blaming remains a problem. Women should be treated with respect regardless of their personal decisions; no one is asking to be violated. Our society brought us up with “Do not get sexually assaulted”, “Do not get raped” instead of “Do not sexually assault”, “Do not rape”. As a writer and through the greater scope of influence from joining pageants, I will not stop expressing my opinion until everyone comprehends woman means human.
I am passionate in telling stories. As a writer and a hobbyist photographer, with proficiency in both disciplines built on my experience as a campus journalist, I use my craft to not only express myself as a young woman, but also to be of service of others, to give voice to those unheard. This I know is my life’s goal.”

I am very passionate about continuing and extending my helping hand to children who need help and those who lack support from their parents. I am a product of a single mother and I saw how my mom worked hard for me to be able to finish my studies and to achieve the career that I want. Her Advocacy: Depression Awareness
“Depression is the main reason why people attempt suicide nowadays. Stigma, discrimination, bullying and criticism cause someone to feel guilty, hopeless and worthless. These lead to depression and it is a serious thing. It is a mental illness which requires cure and have to be taken seriously.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), close to 800,000 people die yearly (one person every 40 seconds) due to suicide. Many more attempt suicide, which is considered the second leading cause of death among 15-29 year-olds globally. We have to be aware about this issue because maybe some of the people close to us are silently suffering from depression. I was one of those who experienced depression, but with the love of my family, friends and the help of God I overcame it. Today, I am still here doing my passion, the things I love and pursuing my dreams.
My own experience of depression inspired me to advocate spreading awareness about this illness. Our government has to do its role in addressing this issue. People must be educated on how depression occurs. The youth must be well informed about depression and how to tackle it since they make up the most number of suicides. They need their parents’ guidance, care and attention.”
