“As a Psychology Major student, I want to use my course as a tool to understand people’s state of mind and well-being, so my advocacy is really close to my heart which is Mental Health Awareness.
We need to understand that people have different mental needs that we should be aware of, and we need to stop generalizing them as crazy or “baliw” when they seem to be troubled or are silently retreating to their own world. The issue on mental health is very relevant nowadays especially to the youth. This is the reason why I would like to raise awareness on mental health issues.”

What Keeps Her Busy:

While working on a flexible schedule for a digital ad agency, Rosan recently passed the Civil Service Exam-Professional Level. She now attends lectures in preparation for the Foreign Service Officer Exam, because she has always wanted to serve her country and become a diplomat.

Her Advocacy: Anti-Cyber bullying and Mental Health Awareness

“In this day and age where social media plays a huge part in our daily lives, I would like to give emphasis on the effects of cyber bullying towards depression and awareness in terms of mental health.

It might be cliché for a beauty queen, but I have experienced cyber bullying and depression first hand. It is very timely and relevant that we shed a light into its causes, and how social media triggers depression, especially with Millennials. As a beauty of the new generation, I feel empowered. It is important for us to become cautious about what we post and share online, be responsible enough to understand its effects towards other people.

Freedom of expression is a fundamental human right, but it does not entitle you to hurt other people.”

Age: 21

Height: 5’7″

Hometown: Tarlac City, Tarlac

What Keeps Her Busy:

Anie is busy pursuing her passion to become a beauty queen and at the same time have a flourishing career as an Architect. During the five years that she pursued a course in BS Architecture, Anie also worked as a freelance model and has joined beauty contests. She says she does not only want to be a successful architect someday who designs buildings, she also wants to focus on her crusade of designing dreams.

Her Advocacy: Education for All

“Being a College degree holder, I have realized that education is the primary key that would help unlock the doors to various opportunities and success. In my years growing up, I saw too many children – because of their dire circumstances – who did not have the opportunity to fulfill their dream of finishing their studies. It’s not that you have to let them graduate as a doctor or as an architect, but at least you need to instill in them the morals and values that will discipline them as a person which can only be provided by proper education. As an advocate of providing education for all Filipino children, I am very passionate and committed in correcting this wrong.”

Christine Julliane Opiaza

Age: 19

Height: 5’6.5″

Hometown: Olongapo City, Zambales

What Keeps Her Busy:

CJ is currently busy preparing for the Miss Midori Clark 2018 competition which she says makes her very productive. She is busy doing physical and mental trainings. Aside from the competition, CJ is also doing hosting and modeling events whenever she has free time.

Her Advocacy: Mental Health

“People see the light of life in different rays. There are those who see life as still worth living, and those who see life as something that needs to end. Hence, my advocacy focuses on mental health, which is also very timely as our country has recently passed the law regarding this.

I believe that individuals of all ages may experience mental health disorders and this can be triggered by physical, social, environmental and psychological factors. Depression leads to be the most alarming mental state which often leads to suicidal attempts. Mental health issues may not be as visible as physical health conditions, but it deserves the same amount of care and attention.

As part of this new generation, I am ready to be a catalyst for change by helping rebuild the lives of people. As my first step to strengthen my advocacy, I want to take advantage of technology by disseminating information about the passage of the Mental Health Law. I believe that acceptance and understanding are the keys to initiate the change that we all want to see.

I am also passionate about my dream of becoming a beauty queen. Now that I am finally fulfilling it, I want to also become an inspiration to other girls who are striving to reach their goals and make a difference to other people’s lives. I also want to spread awareness about my advocacy on mental health by using pageant stages to let my voice be heard.”

Micah Anghela Songco

Age: 21

Height: 5’6″

Hometown: Floridablanca, Pampanga

What Keeps Her Busy:

Micah dedicated this year for doing what she wanted to do, may it be in pageants, traveling, community service, and spending time with family. During her rest days, she tries to find solitude by playing video games and making soul food for her family. She believes that since we only live once, she would like to live her life to the fullest with no regrets.

Her Advocacy: Quality Education

“One thing that I hold dear to my heart is quality education. I advocate this because despite the Philippines having an almost 90% literacy rate, there are still underprivileged kids who can’t afford quality education.

My great inspiration for this advocacy is my grandmother. My grandmother’s parents could not afford to send their children to school so my grandmother only finished Grade 4. Even though she was able to eventually support her own family and she was somehow able to attain success despite her not being able to finish her studies, it pains me to see my grandmother not being able to read or write properly.

Because of this, I devoted my life in giving free education and lessons to children who cannot afford to study courses of the arts. Most of my college life was spent teaching juvenile children, youth who are under the care of the law, and less privileged private or public school students. After months of teaching these children, I harvested the fruit of my labor and was awarded with the “Best Outreach Program of the Year” last 2016 by the La Sallian Community.

I believe that all children deserve to be given quality education regardless of their status in life. It should be given generously for it can be a child’s stepping stone to a brighter future. I also believe that having an educated youth would result to a more prosperous country.”

Camille Eloise Eisma

Age: 21

Height: 5’5.4″

Hometown: Angeles City, Pampanga

What Keeps Her Busy:

Camille says that photography keeps her attuned with life. Whether researching in line with her work, or during her once a week walk with her camera on hand, Camille finds joy and fulfillment in capturing insightful images that speak of interesting stories, bearing witness to the curious case called “humans.” It is also her goal to create her own photo book.

Her Advocacy: Anti-Violence Against Women

“Victim blaming remains a problem. Women should be treated with respect regardless of their personal decisions; no one is asking to be violated. Our society brought us up with “Do not get sexually assaulted”, “Do not get raped” instead of “Do not sexually assault”, “Do not rape”. As a writer and through the greater scope of influence from joining pageants, I will not stop expressing my opinion until everyone comprehends woman means human.

I am passionate in telling stories. As a writer and a hobbyist photographer, with proficiency in both disciplines built on my experience as a campus journalist, I use my craft to not only express myself as a young woman, but also to be of service of others, to give voice to those unheard. This I know is my life’s goal.”

As of now, I support the UNICEF PH Change for Good Campaign which supports and ensures the health and nutrition of Filipino children.

I am very passionate about continuing and extending my helping hand to children who need help and those who lack support from their parents. Her Advocacy: Depression Awareness

“Depression is the main reason why people attempt suicide nowadays. Stigma, discrimination, bullying and criticism cause someone to feel guilty, hopeless and worthless. These lead to depression and it is a serious thing. It is a mental illness which requires cure and have to be taken seriously.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), close to 800,000 people die yearly (one person every 40 seconds) due to suicide. Many more attempt suicide, which is considered the second leading cause of death among 15-29 year-olds globally. We have to be aware about this issue because maybe some of the people close to us are silently suffering from depression. I was one of those who experienced depression, but with the love of my family, friends and the help of God I overcame it. Today, I am still here doing my passion, the things I love and pursuing my dreams.

My own experience of depression inspired me to advocate spreading awareness about this illness. Our government has to do its role in addressing this issue. People must be educated on how depression occurs. The youth must be well informed about depression and how to tackle it since they make up the most number of suicides. They need their parents’ guidance, care and attention.”
